A safety test for paper trimmer, kick stool and ladders
Inspect it!
Check that:
the ladder is free from broken or loose rungs or other components
the ladder has non-slip feet
the ladder should be clean and free from oil, grease, dirt, etc.
WARNING: Do not use a broken ladder, or attempt to make repairs yourself. If you notice a defect, put a 'DO NOT USE" sign on the ladder and report to your supervisor.
Set Up
Ensure that:
the ladder is fully opened and situated on a firm, flat surface
ensure that spreaders and locking devices are in place
if it being used in an area where it may be endangered by traffic, it is required that a second person hold the ladder steady. Have a person guard the ladder if you think traffic may increase.
Using
Be sure to:
Face the ladder when climbing
Not go more that two steps from the top
Maintain a three-point contact by keeping both hands and one foot or both feet and one hand on the ladder at all times when climbing up or down.
Not wear high heels when climbing
Not overextend your reach. Do not lean sideways off the ladder, get off the ladder and relocate it.
Have only one person on the ladder at a time, and do not allow people to walk under the ladder
Get of the ladder to move it, do no attempt to 'walk" the ladder with a rocking motion
