Keeping Current

Staying current in your field is important for those who wish to practice evidence-based medicine. However, this can be tough and very overwhelming considering the amount of information out there. One way to combat this is by creating search alerts or by signing up for table of contents alerts. This page will provide some information on how to do this.

Table of Contents Alerts

Do you like to read each issue of a specific journal? Why not get it electronically? Journals allow you to set up alerts so you can receive that issue's table of contents to your email.

Each journal is different but generally once on the publisher's homepage you will find a place to sign up for "eTOCs." Simply click on that link, create an account or put in an email address, and you will receive the next issue's table of contents to your email!

The image below has a button where you can sign up for electronic table of contents. Check your favourite journal out! Let us know if you need assistance.

Saved Searches

Saved searches allows you to stay current in a specific topic. Let's say you are interested in looking up the most current evidence on "tai chi for knee osteoarthritis" regularly. How would you go about doing this? A quick search can be done and saved in a database such as PubMed. Each month or once new content has been published, an email will be sent to you with the citation information and you can read the abstracts and gain full text access. Contact a librarian for help setting this up!
